Writer Biography

Ron Oakes is a computer scientist, science fiction and fantasy fan, and self-published fantasy writer based in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Some of his earliest memories include watching Star Trek on weekday afternoons and desiring to work on computers like those found on the U.S.S. Enterprise. Not long afterward, he saw Star Wars in its original incarnation (before it became Episode IV: A New Hope)

In the late 1970s, through his Boy Scouts troop, he was introduced to Dungeons & Dragons. At around the same time, he was introduced to the Chronicles of Prydain by Lloyd Alexander. These combined to create a love of fantasy.

After moving to the Chicago Suburbs following college, his love of D&D and other tabletop roleplaying games led him to discover organized Science Fiction Fandom in the early 1990s. As a fan and convention runner, he has worked on and run conventions in Chicago, San Diego, and Albuquerque.

He is married to another fan and lives in Albuquerque, where he works as a government contractor. He shares his house with his wife, four cats, over 300 robots, multiple lightsabers, more artwork than the walls can hold, several dragons, and assorted stuffed animals—not all of which are from this world.

In addition to writing as Ron Oakes, he has also written several stories under the Randall Fox pseudonym.
